Elementalist

The content of our piece revolves around nature's impact on humanity. Through dance, we aim to create a visually evocative piece that captures the intricate movements and rhythms found in the natural world. Our dance performance encompasses various aspects of nature, including natural disasters, creatures, and elemental forces, all enhanced with varying levels of visual computer graphics and motion dynamics. Our objective is to establish a connection between diverse dance movements and the inherent rhythms of nature, fostering both perceptual and epistemic curiosity in our audience.

The piece elicits a range of emotions, including astonishment, wonder, satisfaction, concern, and provocation. Our ultimate goal is to evoke a visceral response from the audience.

One distinguishing feature of our piece is the incorporation of surprise and novelty, especially in our representation of natural disasters. We challenge the conventional notion that natural disasters are mere inconveniences to humanity. Instead, we emphasize that these phenomena would persist, to varying degrees, regardless of the presence of human civilizations on Earth. Our performance incorporates interactive elements that grant the dancer control over what is displayed, effectively narrating the story through both movement and visuals.

We’re creating a reactive digital piece that reacts to the dancer’s movement, portraying cause and effects of human intervention. The piece will overlay abstract elements and videography to achieve a cohesive aesthetic. We will primarily be using TouchDesigner and Isadora to design our piece and will also rely on research to accurately depict the natural disasters and other elements we include for more accuracy. We plan to sustain perceptual and epistemic curiosity by using symbolism and abstract movements.
